Why work with me?
I am an award-winning writer with a Masters in Creative Writing from Macquarie University.
I have lived experience of family and domestic violence, and using creativity to heal.
My story
At 25 I was abandoned with my young daughter, in a flat I couldn’t afford alone. Six weeks later my (ex)-partner called to tell me he had married someone else.
Piled on top of a disordered childhood and sexual abuse, this rejection and betrayal stayed with me for many years. I battled poverty, acute anxiety and depression. I self-medicated.
I also worked, got a degree, and raised my daughter. But before things got a lot better they took another dive. Fast-forward to my 30s where I found myself and my two children living in a women’s shelter in Australia. I couldn’t believe I had messed up so badly again.
But with the help of writing, and wonderful women, I built a new life. I've built a career as a communications manager, and own my home (truly a gift for anyone, but particularly for someone who spent so many years in unstable housing). It’s a life that has been hard won, and I’m grateful every day for how far I’ve come.
Throughout my life, writing has been a place for me to record my experiences, to try to make sense of them. It’s been a safe space to tell the truths I can’t say out loud, to rewrite pain, and to own my story.
I have self-published two novels. My first, Sarah's Song, won the ACT Writing and Publishing Award in 2013. A decade later, my second book, Then Eve, won the 2023 ACT Notable Book Award for self-published fiction.
